Jimi Hendrix-Machine Gun: Live At The Fillmore East 12/31/69 (First Show ) Trailer
On New Year’s Eve of 1969 Jimi Hendrix had his famous Band of Gypsys’ concerts at the Fillmore East in New York City. The shows were a musical turning point in his short life because he was transitioning from his Experience band and focusing on more soulful sounds with The Band Of Gypsys. These shows are also noted for his electrifying performance of “Machine Gun” that transported the audience to the Vietnam War with a virtuosity that made his guitar sound just like combat. On September 30th the first of the shows that took place on New Year’s will be available as the recording, Machine Gun: Live At The Fillmore East 12/31/69 (First Show). In this trailer, his longtime engineer Eddie Kramer and his friend and Band of Gypsy’s bandmember Billy Cox talk about these performances and where Hendrix was musically focused at the time. In 2011, the shows that happened the following night on January 1, 1970, were released in DVD form as Band Of Gypsys:Live At The Fillmore East. These were some of Hendrix’s last performances as he died in September of 1970.
