Today is the 20th anniversary of the passing of Tupac Shakur. His stature as an icon of ’90’s rap has grown with each year since his death. Millennial rappers like Kendrick Lamar and J.Cole have openly acknowledged Shakur’s influence in their music and interviews. His captivating music is only eclipsed by his onscreen charisma that guaranteed a huge movie career cut short by death. The second teaser for All Eyez On Me came out today and another chapter in his life at Death Row Records and his inner struggle are given a glimpse.


Chris Rob Introduces New Single She’s On The Move


Singer/songwriter/musician/producer Chris Rob is currently promoting his new album, Sound Of Da Struggle. Rob’s 2003 debut album, The Official Bootleg, Of Chris Rob Volume 1 revealed him to be an important and rising voice in R&B. He has spent years behind the scenes starting with his piano playing on Kanye West’s “Can’t Tell Me Nothin’.” Meshell Ndegeocello personally contacted him after becoming a fan of his first project. Since then he has appeared in John Legend’s video for “So High” and opened  for and been a band member for several  artists including Prince, Elton John, The Roots, Snoop Dogg and Jill Scott. “She’s On The Move” is his current single from Sound Of Da Struggle and it celebrates the independent woman. The full-length album has a guest appearance from Talib Kweli and many more.


Bell Biv Devoe-Run

Bell Biv Devoe has resurfaced after 15 years with a video for their new single  “Run.” Erick Sermon produced the song that rests heavily on the beat for Biggie Smalls’s “Hypnotize.” Their BET biopic, The New Edition Story, will air in early 2017.


Pandora Launching New Paid Subscription Service


Pandora will soon offer a paid music subscription service with on-demand programming by the end of the year. Pandora is one of the more popular streaming services because they have a free option in addition to the $5 a month plan which eliminates advertising from the listening experience. Universal Music Group, Sony Music Entertainment, the Orchard, Merlin Network and a host of independent labels and distributors have made deals with Pandora for their new service. The contracts for the new product are specific to the United States only and should provide serious competition to Spotify, Google Play Music and Apple Music.


Ed Gordon Returns With Show On Bounce TV Tonight

Veteran television journalist Ed Gordon returns to primetime programming tonight with his Ed Gordon show on Bounce TV. The show airs tonight at 10ET and Gordon has interviews with the Mothers of the Movement, Maxwell and the cast of The Birth Of A Nation.  Sybrina Fulton , Lucia McBath , Lezley McSpadden , Wanda Johnson and Marian Tolan  are the mothers of Trayvon Martin, Jordan Davis, Michael Brown, Oscar Grant and Robbie Tolan. Gordon’s interview with Nate Parker took place before the controversy about his previous rape case and he was not interviewed about the incident. Gordon has spoken with Parker by phone since the interview regarding the rape issue and he will share some of their conversation. In the late ’80s and ’90’s Gordon became known for hosting BET News and his famous interview with O.J. Simpson after the former football star was acquitted of murder.
