Mariah Carey At Essence Festival Plus Livestream

The Essence Festival started Friday night in New Orleans and ends tonight with Kendrick Lamar as the headliner. Mariah Carey was the headliner last night and the fans are very happy with her show. Here are video clips of her performing “Vision Of Love, ” “Make It Happen” and “We Belong Together.” Da Brat and Jermaine Dupri joined her onstage for a performance of “Honey.” Watch some of the festival’s activities and performances stream live below:

Carleen Anderson Signs To Freestyle Records

Carleen Anderson, who was a fixture on the Acid Jazz scene in the U.K. during the ’90’s as the vocalist and songwriter for The Young Disciples, has signed to London’s Freestyle Records. Anderson is getting ready for the release of her Cage Street Memorial-The Pilgrimage album, which is also a stage production and the title of her autobiography. In the above video interview, she talks about the project and how the music is unlike her previous work because it blends many of her influences including classical and jazz. Through the years she has worked with Omar, The Brand New Heavies, Jocelyn Brown, Paul McCartney, Incognito, Meshell Ndegeocello, Guru and others.In 2013, she became the winner of Jazz FM’s Best UK Vocalist award. Anderson is the daughter of Vicki Anderson and stepdaughter of Bobby Byrd both of whom were key members of James Brown’s organization, who is her Godfather. Throwback: The Bangles-Manic Monday

Prince wrote “Manic Monday” for Apollonia 6 but later decided to not use the song. He became a fan of The Bangles after hearing their first album and offered “Manic Monday” as a gift. The song was recorded for their second album, In A Different Light, and it made them a pop sensation because it was their first hit. Prince would also have a personal relationship with Bangles’ lead vocalist Susanna Hoffs. The Bangles last recorded in 2011 when they released their fifth studio album, Sweetheart of the Sun.
