J.Dilla’s long lost Diary album is noted for the rare vocals from the emcee/producer and guest appearances from a variety of rappers including Nas and Snoop Dogg. The instrumental version of The Diary is available now from Rappcats digitally and on vinyl until July 8th when it will be in all the usual purchase places. “Drive Me Wild” is produced by Karriem Riggins and the James Brown influence is interrupted in places by psychedelic guitars and ceremonial keys.
9th Wonder surprised the fans with his just-released ZION beat tape of 36 instrumentals. The producer stated that the ZION series will be used to release every production he has ever created over the next few years. Stream it in full here and you buy it from iTunes.
“It’s just really fun! I thought, I never get to do really fun, synthy, aggressive bright things. I met Prince in London at his gigs at the O2 and he gave me loads of encouragement. I was amazed by the gig but even more impressed by the aftershow he did in a small venue where he tore up on the guitar and played other people’s songs too. This is one of my favourite Prince songs and gives me the chance to sing the kind of sexy, rhythmical music I love but never seem to write. Getting the chance to do this song was a dream.”
Corinne Bailey Rae released her third studio album, The Heart Speaks In Whispers in 2016.
