Elzhi-February Official Video

Elzhi pays tribute to his mentor and friend, J.Dilla in the video for “February.” J.Dilla’s birthday and death day is in February and Elzhi’s memory of the time is a gloomy scene played out in bed, on the field playing football, drinking and cuddling with a girlfriend. Elzhi’s Lead Poison comes out March 25th.

All Def Movie Awards

Last night while the Oscars were being broadcast, the All Def Movie Awards were streamed via the Fusion cable network website Fusion.net. Tony Rock, Chris Rock’s brother, hosted the event that had categories like Best Bad Muh F**ka, Most Helpful White Person and Best Black Survivor. The All Def Movie Awards is Russell Simmons’ answer to the #OscarsSoWhite issue that has been talked about since Jada Pinkett Smith made a video discussing her need to boycott the Oscars this year because of a lack of diversity.

One Be Lo-The Original Born Ones Album Stream

One Be Lo and Seattle native Bean One started recording The Original Born Ones in 2006. They restarted the work again in January 2016 and decided to release the album in February to acknowledge Black History Month. They chose February because the music is addressing things like the Flint water crisis and police killing unarmed Black men. The whole thing is packaged in a photo from the Hagia Sophia in Istanbul, Turkey because One Be Lo and Bean One compare the Turks taking over Constantinople to the Black and white culture wars in America.
