Porter Ray-Outside Looking In

Seattle rapper Porter Ray released his jazzy Nightfall EP last November and he just debuted the video for “Outside Looking In.” His full-length album will be released later this year but you can stream and buy Nightfall at his Bandcamp page.

Kendrick Lamar On The Tonight Show

Kendrick Lamar was the musical guest on The Tonight Show and he performed an untitled song that does not appear on his To Pimp A Butterfly album. He also performed another untitled song last month on The Colbert Report and now the fans want official releases on both tunes.

Jidenna-Knickers Official Video

Jidenna’s video for “Knickers” uses the legendary Cotton Club of 1920’s and ’30’s Harlem to make a point about racism because it was a whites-only establishment that featured Black entertainers. “Knickers” is an obvious reference to the n word and it becomes clear after all the amazing dancing that takes place and gets interrupted by white police officers who have no other reason to shut down the party but race. Jidenna’s consistently good videos and singles is making his impending album release an impatient waiting game.

Esperanza Spalding-Good Lava

Esperanza Spalding’s upcoming Emily’s D+ Evolution album gives signs of more fusion and less R&B by the sounds of “Good Lava.” The video features Spalding in the middle of psychedelic and New Agey images that move around her. Emily’s D+ Evolution comes out in March but can be pre-ordered now.
