Lil Herb’s stories about his block in Chicago have resonated with rap fans more than any national news headline about the crisis of violence and unemployment. His gruff vocals punch through speakers and grab you by the ears with a rawness that eclipses any over dramatized CNN broadcast. “Frankie Lymon” is a warm-up to his upcoming Ball Like Kobe mixtape which is a follow-up to his critically acclaimed Welcome To Fazoland that came out last February. Lil Herb just appeared on Common’s remix to “Fight Or Flight” after also guesting on Nobody’s Smiling.
L’Orange released his free 9-song EP, After The Flowers today. The hip-hop and soul oriented project has work from Amerigo Gazaway, Chuck English, Meyhem Lauren and Red Pill. He describes it as the epilogue to The Orchid Days released earlier this year.
Snughie is a soul singer from the D.C. area currently working on the completion of his debut album, High Definition Love. His no frills approach to music comes from his love of R&B greats like Earth, Wind & Fire, Stevie Wonder, Prince, Marvin Gaye and countless others who have shaped the genre. The Duke Ellington School of Arts alum released his single, “It’s True” two years ago and really started to develop a following among soul-loving addicts outside the mainstream. Right now his Indiegogo campaign to put the final touches on High Definition Love is in full effect and you can see him talk about it in the above video.
