Divine Styler is a Brooklyn native who was a member of Ice-T’s Rhyme Syndicate before releasing his Word Power album in 1989. His individual style relied heavily on his Islamic spiritual beliefs and lyrical inventiveness. “Ain’t Sayin’ Nothin'” is from Word Power and the video is classic Golden Age material noted for its individualism and choreography. His Spiral Walls Containing Autumns Of Light album made its leftist funk, rock roots felt inside songs like “Heaven Don’t Want Me and Hell’s Afraid I’ll Take Over” that sounded like a Funkadelic acid trip. He appeared on House of Pain’s last album and later released his third project, Wordpower, Vol. 2: Directrix in 1999. His third effort continued to deal with abstract ideas and an emphasis on lyricism. Divine Styler last appeared on Styles Of Beyond’s 2012’s Reseda Beach.
