Throwback: James Mason-I Want Your Love

James Mason was a keyboard player and guitarist in Roy Ayers’ band during the ’70’s. He made his most bodacious appearance on “Running Away” from Ayers’ 1977 Lifelife album. “I Want Your Love” is from his solo album Rhythm Of Life that was also released in 1977. Mason’s funk/jazz style was in the vein of his work with Ayers and people like Lonnie Liston Smith but the small Chiaroscuro label’s resources kept the album underground. Acid Jazz followers discovered Rhythm Of Life years later and called Mason a fusion visionary. He never recorded again but Soul Brother Records in England acquired the album’s master and reissued it on CD for a new generation.
