Odell Brown Jr. was a native of Louisville, Kentucky and started his first professional music group The Organ-izers in the ’60’s.The organ player and his band signed a deal with the Chess Records subsidiary Cadet in 1963. They recorded 4 well-received albums with Mellow Yellow being their most popular. In 1966 they snared a Billboard jazz award before disbanding in 1970. Brown recorded five solo albums in the ’70’s and “Tasha” is from his self-titled 1974 project. He made his mark as a songwriter in 1981 when he co-wrote “Sexual Healing” with Marvin Gaye and won two Grammy awards. Brown passed in 2011 at his home in Richfield, Minnesota.
