Tyrone Brunson was a bass player from Washington, D.C. who made a significant stride in ’80’s electro-funk with his song “The Smurf.” Brunson’s song thrived among other electro classics of the time including “Planet Rock,” “Hip-Hop, Be Bop (Don’t Stop)” and The Jonzun Crew’s “Pac Jam (Look Out For The OVC.)” Despite his contribution to the movement that influenced techno and hip-hop Brunson’s 4 albums did not have the appeal and invention of “The Smurf.” Brunson passed away in May of 2013.
