Skyzoo’s video for “Jansport Strings” is a tribute to the backpack he wore as a kid and Chi Ali with a piece of Ali’s “Age Ain’t Nothing But A Number” video at the end. The video couldn’t come at a better time since Chi Ali was just released from prison last week.

Khalil Joseph directed this short film for “Until The Quiet Comes” from the Flying Lotus album of the same name. A young boy and a man get shot and their murders seem to be the only way for them to achieve calm in their chaotic neighborhoods. The older man appears to enter the afterlife via a lowrider while wearing a “J.Dilla Saved My Life” t-shirt.

Detroit underground rap veteran Frank Nitt has just released his third solo album Stadium Music bundled with his 48-page book The View From The Underground. Frank is known for his work on J.Dilla’s Welcome 2 Detroit project and the 48 Hours album he recorded as one-half of Frank-N-Dank with Dilla as the producer. The View From The Underground is a mini-memoir of his time with Dilla, life in Detroit and the work of being an underground rapper.

Rock Hall Announces Initial Tribute Concert Lineup & Ticket Onsale Dates for American Music Masters

CLEVELAND (September 6, 2012) – The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum and Case Western Reserve University are pleased to announce the initial lineup of artists that will honor Chuck Berry at the 17th annual American Music Masters® tribute concert on Saturday, October 27, 2012. at 7:30 p.m. at PlayhouseSquare’s State Theatre. Chuck Berry will appear to accept the American Music Masters honor and is scheduled to perform.
