Ms. Melodie, who was a former member of Boogie Down Productions, and the ex-wife of KRS-One passed last night of undisclosed causes. Ms. Melodie hailed from the Flatbush area of Brooklyn and entered the commercial rap world during the Golden Era before female rappers were encouraged to conform to a particular look and style. Her solo album Diva came out in 1989 is remembered most for the songs, “Hype According To Ms. Melodie” and “Live On Stage.” She also had memorable appearances in the Stop The Violence “Self Destruction” project, Queen Latifah’s “Ladies First” video and the BDP H.E.A.L album. Ms. Melodie is also the older sister of Harmony who was a BDP member as well.
