Whitney Houston and Jordin Sparks participate in one of Houston’s last performances from the film Sparkle. The film will be in theaters August 17th and it’s going to have even greater success now that Houston is gone.

Sankofa is a string band dedicated to folk music and “If Wishes Were Gold” is the first single from The Uptown Strut. The album was a work-in-progress since 2009 and it is a collection of mostly cover songs but Allison Russell wrote “If Wishes Were Gold” about an unfulfilled personal relationship.

The Internet And Kilo Kish Announce Tour Dates

Syd the Kyd and Matt Martians are doing a few East Coast tour dates for their Purple Naked Ladies project. They are also promoting their Pizzawave label artist Kilo Kish as she joins them on the tour in support of her Internet-produced Homeschool EP.

Chaka Khan made a surprise appearance on The Wendy Williams Show yesterday and she discussed her newfound veganism, new music, a fragrance, candles and chocolate to commemorate her 40 years in the music business. She also talked about her foundation’s initiative in New Orleans that is helping women to improve their lives.

Alison Crockett-Come Back As A Flower Feat. Ursula Rucker

Singer-songwriter Alison Crockett is back with her new album Mommy What’s A Depression that was released yesterday and is available on iTunes and the Japanese site Cluberria. “Come Back As A Flower” is a too-short snippet, featuring Ursula Rucker, about the value of gardening in Crockett’s life and it’s also influenced by Stevie Wonder’s Secret Life Of Plants. You can hear a few other song segments on her Soundcloud page but Crockett has proven to be consistent in her jazz-soul offerings since she debuted back in 2004 with On Becoming A Woman.
