Drummer and Producer Karriem Riggins is featured on Paul McCartney’s album Kisses on the Bottom that was released yesterday. The album includes guest appearances by Eric Clapton, Stevie Wonder and three-time GRAMMY Award winning jazz vocalist/pianist Diana Krall. Riggins will be performing with McCartney, who will be named the 2012 MusiCares person of the year, at the organization’s Gala in Los Angeles on February 10 and also at the GRAMMY® Awards on February 12.
Aside from currently playing with Krall, Riggins has performed and appeared on recordings with jazz legends like Oscar Peterson, Mulgrew Miller, Herbie Hancock and the late Ray Brown, just to name a few.
Not one to abide musical boundaries, Riggins has made major accomplishments within the hip-hop world as a musician and producer, bridging the gap between both the hip-hop and jazz genre. He has produced for GRAMMY® winning hip-hop artist and actor Common, including the track “Play Your Cards Right” for Paramount Picture’s feature film Smoking Aces, The Roots who currently is the house band for Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, and Erykah Badu’s last two albums, New Amerykah Part I and II, among other musicians.
Riggins is managed by The JAE.B Group, an Artist Relations and Management firm based in Los Angeles, CA, that is headed by music executive and artist manager Jae Barber. Riggins is currently recording his debut, self-titled album. Additionally, he is planning to release an instrumental album, entitled Alone Together on Stones Throw Records this summer.
