Gavin Christopher’s early days were spent learning about about music from Oscar Peterson Jr. and Donny Hathaway in his native Chicago. He was a member of a band called Lyfe with Chaka Khan before she left to join Rufus. High Voltage was the next musical line-up he joined that also included future Rufus members Tony Maiden, Bobby Watson and Lalomie Washburn. Christopher ended-up penning “Dance Wit Me,” “Once You Get Started,” “Have A Goodtime,” and “Fool’s Paradise” for Rufus. In the ’80’s he worked on several projects with Herbie Hancock and was the singer and writer of “Stars In Your Eyes” from Hancock’s 1980 Monster album. “One Step Closer” became his biggest commercial song as a solo artist in 1986. “You Are Who You Love” was the featured single of his 1988 album Gavin. Christopher lives in Los Angeles and he is the brother of dance music artist Shawn Christopher.
