Perri A. Reid debuted as a solo artist in 1987 with her self-titled debut on MCA Records. “Girlfriend” and “Mercedes Boy” were hits from the album that became permanent pop anthems. She married L.A. Reid who co-founded LaFace Records and she was instrumental in the label’s vision for a time. The follow-up to her first solo project was 1990’s Always that also had a good reception because of the singles “Giving You The Benefit,” “Always” and the Babyface duet “Love Makes Things Happen.” Pebbles’ last R&B studio album was Straight From The Heart that was released in 1995 and featured the production and songwriting work of Sean Combs and Organized Noize. She became the main cultivator of TLC when her production company Pebbitone discovered and developed them for their successful first album CrazySexyCool. Pebbles left the mainstream music industry in 1997 when she found religion and started her Women Of God Changing Lives ministry. In 2008 she released her first gospel album Prophetic Flows Vol. I & II and it did well on the Billboard Gospel Album Chart. The singer/minister was named executive producer and host of Essence magazine’s national R&B search earlier this year.
