A decade after her revered debut album Dirty Harriet dropped, the hard-hitting lyricist Rah Digga is announcing that her new album,Classic, will hit the streets on September 14, 2010. This sophomore follow up is rife with the ambidextrous vernacular that has ranked her unquestionably among the best MCs of all-time.
Classic features production exclusively from Nottz and is an unrelenting demonstration of Digga’s impeccable delivery and cadence. After a decade of label politics and concentric side-projects that landed her appearances on notable records by the likes of The Fugees (the classic debut The Score) and Busta Rhymes along with mentions in Time Magazine, XXL and Rolling Stone. The former first lady of Busta’s Flipmode Squad is back to doing what she does best and doesn’t let anyone get a verse in edgewise. She exercises her right to drop excellence (and expletives) on the percussive lead single “This Aint No Lil’ Kid Rap”, and acknowledges the superficial virtual-realities of the nü-record industry on “Viral”. The Newark native has never seemed more at home than she does when she’s digesting mid-tempo instrumentals but this time she has a plate full of Nottz bangers all to herself.
Hip-hop has always been show ‘n’ prove, and on Classic Rah Digga’s old habits die hard (or not at all). She’s as relevant and unapologetic as ever, and there’s even more to say when she has the podium to herself.
