Rock Steady! Hip-Hop Philanthropist Russell Simmons’ Diamond Empowerment Fund To Benefit From Christie’s Auction Of Famed Ponahalo Diamonds

(New York, NY)- On Friday, October 10th, 2008- Russell Simmons, co-creator of Diamond Empowerment Fund (DEF) and Rahul Kadakia, Christie’s Head of Jewelry, held an exclusive viewing of the famed Ponahalo Diamonds at Christie’s New York Rockefeller Plaza location. The Diamonds will be auctioned on Wednesday, October 15th, 2008. The Forevermark Ponahalo diamonds are two magnificent diamonds weighing 102.11 and 70.87 carats, cut from a rough diamond of 316.15 carats, the largest discovered at the De Beers Venetia mine.

The famous auction house offered journalists an intimate view of the world’s most stunning gems. Russell Simmons and good friend Ugandan supermodel Kiara stopped by to talk about the importance of raising money to support education initiatives and empower economically disadvantaged people in African nations where diamonds are a natural resource. The Steinmetz Diamond Group will make and undisclosed donation to DEF from the proceeds raised by the auction.
